Where Google answers players and crypto users
AEO only pays where an answer is shown. We searched what players, bettors and crypto users type, so you can see where the answer box exists in your vertical and whose page fills it.
On 23 October 2026 we ran 36 plain searches in Google US, twelve per vertical, from “best online casinos” and “parlay explained” to “where to buy bitcoin”, and recorded every answer block on the page and every source the AI Overview listed. The same day we put 24 player and user questions to ChatGPT and Perplexity to compare whose pages the assistants quote.
| What we measured | Result | What it means for your brand |
|---|
| Searches showing a Google AI Overview | Casino 0 of 12, sportsbook 11 of 12, crypto 12 of 12 | For a sportsbook or an exchange, Google’s own answer sits above almost every search. For a casino it does not appear, and the answer has to be won in ChatGPT and Perplexity. |
| Searches showing “People also ask” | Casino 8 of 12, sportsbook 12 of 12, crypto 12 of 12 | Where Google writes no AI answer for casinos, it still lists the questions players ask next. Those questions are a casino’s answer brief. |
| Searches showing a featured snippet | 0 of 36 | The old position-zero box has gone from these searches. AEO here means the AI Overview and the assistants, not the snippet. |
| AI Overviews that listed sources and quoted an operator’s, exchange’s or wallet’s own page | 7 of 16, among them “how to bet on football”, “parlay explained”, “crypto staking”, “where to buy bitcoin” and two wallet searches | On explainer and where-to questions Google quotes the brand’s own page. Those pages are the AEO work you can do on your own site. |
| Brands’ own pages among the sources: Google’s AI Overviews against ChatGPT and Perplexity | 19 of 118 AI Overview sources, against 16 of 358 pages cited by the two assistants | Google’s answer box quotes brands more than three times as often as the assistants do. Own-site AEO pays most on Google; the assistants lean on lists. |
| Gambling answers from ChatGPT and Perplexity that state a licence or a regulator | 21 of 32 | The answer an assistant gives carries the licence. A licence stated in plain words on your own page, with the regulator named, is a fact it can quote. |
On “parlay explained” Google’s AI Overview listed eleven sources, and four of them were sportsbooks’ own pages: Caesars, FanDuel, DraftKings and Fanatics. On “best crypto exchange” it quoted NerdWallet, Investopedia and Forbes, and no exchange. The questions where a brand can be quoted are the ones it can explain, not the ones that rank it.
Method: 23 October 2026. Google US desktop, top of page, 36 searches (12 casino, 12 sportsbook, 12 crypto) through DataForSEO. ChatGPT (gpt-4.1-mini with web search) and Perplexity (sonar), 24 questions each (8 per vertical; US, with one UK and one Ontario question per vertical), one answer per question, temperature 0.2. Brands counted from a list of about 70 operators, sportsbooks and crypto companies; every cited domain classified by hand. One read per question: a direction, not a market rate.
